The writer's strike almost rained on the Oscar parade of filmmakers and actors – the poor slobs who never get recognition or credit for anything they do these days. But fortunately the old axiom, "The show must go on" proved true, and the red carpet will be rolled out after all so that those poor, unfortunate workhorses can receive their long-overdue ass-kissings.

Academy Awards President Sid Ganis had argued that if the Oscars were canceled, it would be "a major blow to the industry," because seriously, where would the celebrities score blow if there were no Oscar parties?
