Academy Awards Countdown: Oscar Handicapping

Will Johnny Depp win the Best Actor Oscar for Sweeney Todd? Bet now in the Bodog Sportsbook. (Courtesy DreamWorks)
Oddsmakers are predicting that Johnny Depp will be overlooked for the Best Actor Oscar — perhaps because Sweeney Todd's musical genre with sing-song dialogue will most likely not be taken seriously enough for such a win, even though Depp's portrayal of the murderous barber was an impressive one. Moreover, although the world collectively love, love, loves Mr. Depp, we silently agree that we simply cannot forgive him for his vandalism of the character of Willy Wonka.
No, for the Best Actor nod, our odds are on huge favorite to win Daniel Day-Lewis, whose genius performance as an oil prospector in turn-of-the-century Texas earned him 1/10 odds in the Bodog Sportsbook – though there is speculation that it's time for Facts of Life alum George Clooney to actually be taken seriously. Because c'mon, he's a charmer. He tries so hard to charm your pants off, no?
If you do have strong opinions on who will sweep Sunday's Oscars, you'd better put your money where you mouth is. Bodog is offering all the standard Oscar odds, and some more creative ones — like will host Jon Stewart make a joke about Fidel Castro retiring?
