Adam Lambert took a much-needed break from his Emo look this week for Motown Week on American Idol, which was mentored by living legend, Smokey Robinson. And after last week's cool rendition of Ring of Fire, Adam Lambert quickly standing out from the other competitors.

Lambert cleaned up his look for a soulful and tender performance of "Tracks Of My Tears," made famous by Smokey and The Miracles in 1965. After holding a beautiful final note, Robinson jumped to his feet in applause, followed by the rest of the audience.

Simon Cowell
declared Lambert's unplugged version of the song the “best performance of the night”.  Randy told him that he was not just an “indie cool rocker”, but “unbelievably hot."

Lambert blew judge favorite, Danny Gokey, right out of the water. Gokey sang the Temptations' "Get Ready" in his traditional karaoke fashion. This time however, after following Lambert, judges couldn't shower him with the praise they usually do. Simon called it clumsy and amateurish while Kara called it good, not great.

Another standout of the evening was 16-year-old Allison Iraheta, who closed the show with the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."

"You might be 16, but you're one of the dopest singers in this whole thing," Randy Jackson raved.
