A swarm of bees was no match for Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe who scored a box office victory this weekend with their crime drama American Gangster.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the flick earned an impressive $46.3 million, making it the highest grossing R-rated crime drama in history. It's also the best opening for both Crowe and Washington, as well as the highest opener of the fall to date.

Bee Movie, voiced, co-written and produced by Jerry Seinfeld, still had plenty to buzz about, debuting at number two with $39.1 million. The movie marks Seinfeld's first major outing since his hit television series.

Dropping from its debut in first last week, horror flick Saw IV landed in third with $11 million.

Also in its second week, Steve Carrel's Dan in Real Life nabbed the fourth spot, bringing in $8.1 million. Vampire horror 30 Days of Night was fifth with $4 million.

Rounding out the top ten were family comedy The Game Plan in sixth with $3.8 million, John Cusack and Martian Child in seventh with $3.6 million, George Clooney starring as Michael Clayton in eighth with $2.9 million, Gone Baby Gone, with the Affleck brothers held ninth with $2.4 million and Tyler Perry's Why did I Get Married was tenth with $2.7 million.
