American Idol's Top Women Perform with Flu

After Ryan Seacrest announced the cliché that the flu-ridden girls were "in it to win it," they took the stage and belted out tunes from the '60s.
Kristy Lee Cook sold her horse to raise the money so she could go to Philadelphia to try out for American Idol.
"Hopefully, if I win this thing, I can buy my horse back," she said.
Cook delivered a stiff version of "Rescue Me." Poor kid looked nervous as hell.
"It wasn't your best performance… It was a little rough around the edges, that one," Randy Jackson said.
In her critique, Paula Abdul pointed out that Cook was one of the Idol kids who had come down with the flu.
"It was the complete wrong choice of song for you," Simon told her.
Plus-size model Joanne Borgella gave us another shaky performance singing, "Say a Little Prayer."
"You gotta pull it together and shine through," Abdul told her.
"I didn't like it at all," Simon said to a chorus of boos.
Sixteen-year-old Alaina Whitaker's performance was more upbeat and impressed the judges. Although Amanda Overmyer seemed to be on a constant quest to channel Janis Joplin, she did it pretty damn well. The rock 'n' roll nurse from Mulberry, Ind. scored decent reviews from judges.
Twenty-four-year-old nanny Brooke White, who has never seen a rated-R movie, challenged Simon to bring her over to the dark side. She sang "Happy Together" which Simon said was a good choice, but that he felt like he was trapped in a commercial for "washing-up liquid."
There's been a lot of talk of Carly Smithson, the Irish singer who once scored a record deal that went sour. The word on the street is that the label spent $2 million and fewer than 400 copies sold, which wasn't mentioned on the show. Carly said she sees this as her second chance for sure. She sang "Shadow of Your Smile."
Paula and Randy raved but Simon said, "Once again, I'm on my own here. I didn't get it… There's buzz about you… I was genuinely expecting something fantastic, and I didn't think it was fantastic."
After the votes are tallied tomorrow night, the bottom two girls and the bottom two guys will head back to life before Idol. Want to bet on who will go home? The Bodog Sportsbook has all your American Idol odds.
