The wife of former Massachusetts Governor and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is reportedly doing well after a recent diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer, which resulted in a lumpectomy yesterday. Fifty-nine-year-old Ann Romney was diagnosed with a precancerous lump after an annual mammogram. Ann, who was also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998, underwent the lumpectomy in Salt Lake City.

“While this is commonly referred to as early-stage breast cancer, it is technically not cancer, but rather precancer, as it has not become invasive,” Ann said in the statement. “Mitt and I feel fortunate to have caught this so early.”

Romney, a mother of five, was released from the hospital after the procedure.
