The Anna Nicole Smith story is stranger than fiction. And now, as if it couldn't get any more dramatic, the plot has again thickened. As it turns out, the FBI was investigating Smith in 2000 and 2001 in a murder-for-hire plot targeting the son of her late husband, J. Howard Marshall.
After his death, Smith battled his son, E. Pierce Marshall, who fought her tooth-and-nail on collecting his father's oil wealth, valued in the hundreds of millions. He died just three years ago of natural causes. There is evidence from a mostly whited-out FBI file that Smith had plotted the murder of the younger Marshall. The AP reports that the FBI files show a .357-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver was confiscated from Smith's home, along with a 3 1/2-inch stainless steel knife and, for reasons that were not explained, a black and orange hat described as "Dr. Seuss." Charges were never filed against the former stripper turned playmate.
In the meantime, Howard K. Stern along with two other doctors Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich were charged with a total of eight felonies in relation to Anna Nicole Smith's death. Among the eight charges are "prescribing, administering or dispensing a controlled substance to an addict."
