The Govenator of California is not a popular man today after he slashed thousands of part-time jobs and cut the pay of full-time workers. Over 10,000 part-time state workers lost their jobs and pending budget approval, 200,000 workers are facing pay cuts to the federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour. Schwarzenegger also limited overtime and imposed a hiring freeze.

"Our state faces a looming cash crisis," Schwarzenegger said.

Democratic State Controller John Chiang, suggested that Schwarzenegger did not have the authority to make the cuts and said he would not cooperate.

At a Los Angeles news conference, Chiang said, "The state of California, the elected leadership, cannot put the important public servants of California in harm's way. We put people first, we make sure we protect their interests, and that's why I have to tell the governor, with all due respect, I am not going to comply with this order."

Schwarzenegger said he would file suit against the controller in court if it comes to that, but there is hope that a budget could be signed within days. However, if an agreement is made, it will have come too late for the 10,000 workers already laid off.
