Scandal, divorce and hiding out in girls locker rooms will be all the rage once the invisibility cloak gets into the hands of the general public. Meant for "military purposes," this technology is on the brink of becoming a reality now that Xiang Zhang of the Science and Engineering Center at the University of California, Berkeley has found two new types of materials that will reverse the direction of light. Professor Zhang said in the case of invisibility cloaks or shields, the material would need to curve light waves completely around the object like a river flowing around a rock.
If "military purposes" include sneaking up behind Mike Tyson and kicking him in the balls then yes – this will be an awesome scientific endeavor. Watching Tyson flail around trying to kick an invisible ass sounds fun.
