A Boston, Mass. Catholic priest has been arrested for stalking late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien. The priest allegedly sent O'Brien handwritten, threatening notes on parish letterhead, contacted O'Brien's parents and even showed up at his studio.
The Rev. David Ajemian was arrested on Nov. 2 when he tried to enter a taping session of NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" at New York's Rockefeller Plaza. He referred to himself as "your priest stalker" in one note, and wrote, "Is this the way you treat your most dangerous fans?"
CNN reports that the letters and e-mails began in September 2006 and were first "intended to cause annoyance and alarm," said Barbara Thompson, a spokesperson for the Manhattan prosecutor's office. However, as the letters progressed, O'Brien began receiving threats like, "I want a public confession before I ever consider giving you absolution – or a spot on your couch." Ajemain would sign these notes "Padre."
As for now, "O'Brien is not commenting," said an NBC spokesperson. The preist could face up to a year in prison if convicted of aggravated harassment and stalking.
