Weathering the storm of bad press, Tropic Thunder has so far earned a respectable 76 percent approval rating on rottentomatoes.com. Could the controversial comedy, which evolves around a group of celebrity ego-maniac actors hired to recreate the story of a Vietnam veteran, be the flick that knocks the Dark Knight off his prospective pedestal?

Newsday calls the Ben Stiller-directed comedy, "Gory, vulgar and wickedly funny. Easily the summer's best comedy," while Rolling Stone says, "Think of all the ways you can hurt yourself laughing, as in fall down, split your sides, bust a gut, blow your mind. You get it all in Tropic Thunder, a knockout of a comedy that keeps you laughing constantly."

New York Magazine's David Edelstein says, "The Ben Stiller action-film parody Tropic Thunder is all over the map, but it’s worth enduring the botched gags, formula plotting, and even the racism to marvel at the genius of Robert Downey Jr."
