David Gregory New 'Meet the Press' Host

NBC has announced this morning that long-time correspondent David Gregory will be a permanent moderator on Meet the Press, replacing Tim Russert, who died of a heart attack in June.

"I'm honored and deeply humbled as I take on this role," said Gregory in the statement. "I'm filled with a great sense of purpose as I join a superb team to cover Washington and the world from a treasured platform in our country. Above all, I want to make Tim proud."

Meet the Press is the longest-running show on television, premiering in 1947. Ithas been the top-rated Sunday morning show for 11 consecutive years. Gregory's appointment was announced by Tom Brokaw after an interview with Barack Obama, officially naming Gregory the show's tenth moderator.
