After spending much of his career diddling the staff, David Letterman has been caught by an extortionist and now is sorry.

Letterman made fun of himself first, then apologized to his staff, saying, "Thank you to my staff for putting up with something I've gotten myself into."

He emphasized that his dallying with staff is "in the past" before things turned serious and he turned his focus to his family. Letterman and Regina Lasko married in March and they have a son together.

Letterman said, "My wife Regina, she has been horribly hurt by my behavior. And when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it. At that point there is only two things that can happen, either you are going to make some progress and get it fixed or you're gonna fall short and perhaps not get it fixed. So let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."

So far, a handful of women have come forward claiming they've bedded the late night host, including Stephanie Birkitt and Holly Hester.

Fifty-one-year-old Robert "Joe" Halderman, a producer for CBS News was charged with attempted first-degree grand larceny against Letterman and was released on $200,000 bail. Want to get in on all celebrity betting? Join Bodog now.
