With the superficiality slash craziness of all the Britney Spears news bombarding the celebrity gossip genre, here's a cute story to take the edge off.

Plain White T's singer Tom Higgenson met Delilah DiCrescenzo and was immediately entranced. Even though she had a boyfriend, Higgenson told her he was going to write a song about her — and that it would be a hit.

"I thought he was just being flirtatious and leading me along," Delilah told Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira on The Today Show. "I had a boyfriend at the time, so I really didn't believe him."

Five years later, the song began to climb the charts and finally made it to number 1, and Delilah kept in touch with Higgenson, mostly through e-mails. When the song was nominated for a Grammy as Song of the Year, he called and invited her to come to the Feb. 11 ceremony with him. With her boyfriend's blessing, she accepted. Awwwww.

"I knew it was fictionalized, and I'm glad that I finally get the opportunity to say I do have a boyfriend and it is romanticized," she said. "The song means so much to so many different people. I'm just happy that it's had so much success, and I don't mind playing along with it."

Will "Hey There Delilah" win Song of the Year? Bet on the Grammys in the Bodog Sportsbook.
