Of all the promises Barack Obama made during his campaign, the promise that he would give his daughters a puppy during his victory speech might be the one Americans will remember the most.
"Sasha and Malia," the president said, "I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House."
Now finally, the Obamas are turning that promise into a reality and have chosen the new First Dog. The president's daughters, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha, have settled on a black and white pup named Charlie whom they will rename Bo. The Washington Post reports they chose this name because their cousins have a cat named Bo and first lady Michelle Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley – Bo Diddley. The pup, a gift from Senator Kennedy who owns several Portuguese water dogs himself, will arrive at the White House on Thursday afternoon.
Charlie (a.k.a. "Bo") was originally sold to someone who returned it to a Texas kennel, the same kennel which had sold Kennedy 3 Portuguese Water Dogs in the past.
Secret meetings between Bo and the Obamas were held last week and the Post reports that they "hit it off." For all the fuzzy action, check out these Bo Obama pics. He's cute. Damn cute.
