After Vanity Fair reported the story that Bill Clinton has had an affair with Gina Gershon, her lawyers have a few things to say about it. (Courtesy Go Go Records)

Todd Purdum’s portrayal of Bill Clinton in this month's "Vanity Fair," doesn't paint a pretty picture of the former president. According to Purdum, who has yet to produce a smoking gun but writes lengthy paragraphs on speculation, Clinton "might be up to his old tricks" and the article also speculates that actress Gina Gershon was among Clinton's extra-marital conquests.

Now, Gershon has sicked her lawyers on "Vanity Fair," demanding that the publication insert "a retraction and correction."

In the letter sent from her lawyers, Lavely & Singer, the Gershon camp insists that Purdum's article "outrageously insinuates that Ms. Gershon has had an inappropriate sexual relationship with President Clinton. This is absolutely false."

The letter also notes: "Gershon has only been in the same room as President Clinton on three occasions," and that others were present in the room with her. TMZ reports that the letter also jabs that in the Vanity Fair article, "Rumor-mongering was substituted for fact-checking."
