If you follow Paula Abdul on Twitter then you've already read the news that the American Idol judge is calling it quits. Here's what she wrote:
"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to Idol. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon."
The New York Times is reporting that Abdul wanted a substantial raise over last year's salary of $2 million per season and when execs didn't meet that demand she high-stepped it out of their office. According to the paper, someone "close to the negotiations said that the producers had offered Ms. Abdul a 30 percent salary increase and a total multi-year deal worth more than $10 million."
So that leaves Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell (both already on contract through next season), and Kara Dioguardi (who signed a new contract for an undisclosed amount) as the show's judges. Host Ryan Seacrest signed a three-year $45 million contract last month.
What do you think about Paula Abdul's leaving the show?
We here at the Beat don't like it one bit. Not ONE bit. :(
While the petite brunette was a bit of a ditz, her colorful comments to the young singers and on-air battles with Cowell added an interesting element to the program — one that we highly doubt Dioguardi can replicate.
