Jenny Sanford on Husband's Affair: Take a Hike

Anderson Cooper and Jenny Sanford? Nah. But he does make plenty of room for her on his blog. (Wikimedia Image)

Okay so here's how the story goes: S.C. Governor Mark Sanford disappeared for a few (or five) days and he had everyone — including his family — worried. He told his wife, Jenny, he needed time to himself to write something. Uh huh. He told his staff he needed to go hiking, that in times like this the perfect place for him was the Appalachian Trail. Uh huh.

The Appalachian Trail crosses six national parks, touches 14 states and is 2,178 miles long.

So after taking this so-called "mystery trip" to do a little hiking along the nation's longest foot path, Sanford resurfaces and instead confesses to his children, his wife, his staff, to the entire country via news conference that he was, in fact, not hiking, but that he was with another woman. The very woman that he had been having an affair with for the past year. (You can read his sordid story/public apology here.)

And then he resigns.

Clearly needing time to herself to sort through this crap, Jenny Sanford announces their separation and today issued a statement of her own. (You can read first lady Jenny Sanford's statement as posted on Anderson Cooper's blog.) We'll skip to the best part of her statement, where she admits to needing the strength and patience of Job to get through this:

"This is a very painful time for us and I would humbly request now that members of the media respect the privacy of my boys and me as we struggle together to continue on with our lives and as I seek the wisdom of Solomon, the strength and patience of Job and the grace of God in helping to heal my family."

Job, as you may know, had everything taken from him by Satan.

The Beat suggests that as punishment for his extramarital affair, Jenny should tell her husband to take a hike — a REAL LONG HIKE — along that Appalachian Trail he likes so much. (10,000 people claim to have completed that hike so it is possible. LOL.)

And there ya have it, folks. Get your political and entertainment props at Bodog. (And yes we're quite aware that the photo of Anderson Cooper isn't entirely appropriate, but we plum didn't have any Jenny or Mark Sanford photos on hand.)
