Kate Gosselin appeared on the Today Show this morning to respond to the news that broke over the weekend that Jon had cleared out their joint bank account.
Kate claims that there was $231,000 in their account and Jon took all of it sans $1,000 – and now she says she can't put food on the table.
Kate told Today's Meredith Vieira, "When you've left your children and their mother without the funds to pay for the roof over their head, it's not acceptable. I need that money to provide for them. We were in the position after our sextuplets were born that we could not pay our bills. We did the show to provide a better life for them. Never did I think I'd be back in the same position. I have a stack of bills in my purse I can't put in the mail."
Kate also said that Jon's halting of their reality show, now renamed, Kate Plus Eight, has stripped the family of their income. She also disputed Jon's comments on Larry King Live last week in which he said their children no longer want to be part of the show.
"I told the kids over the weekend that we weren't filming," Kate said. "Times eight, there was wailing and sobbing. They love the crew, they love the interaction, they love the events. It is not harmful to them. They are angry."
Meredith asked Kate point-blank if she'd ever considered stopping the show – a question that Kate skillfully dodged – deflecting the focus back to Jon's shenanigans. However, she later came back for a second interview to address the question – and stated that the show was her way of supporting the kids and it offered them opportunities they would otherwise not have. Kate also confirmed plans for a new show with Food Network host Paula Deen. "That was my long-term goal. It is secure and substantial – and it is safe. I had the presence of mind to start that on my own. That's what I want for them, [for] their future to be secure."
