Your Bodog Beat editors don't feel bad for Michael Phelps. Not a bit. Now he's all remorseful for smoking weed at a party only because he got caught and is losing a butt load of money over it. However, before the pictures leaked, we doubt he sat around filled with regret over the November evening he spent hitting the bong.
However, what Phelps failed to realize when he was at a party with strangers who were all taking photos as he held a bong to his lips – is that when you're America's golden boy, you gotta keep it clean. Now Kelloggs, one of Phelps' most lucrative sponsors, announced it was not renewing a contract with the eight-time Beijing Olympic gold medalist saying on Thursday, "We originally built the relationship with Michael, as well as the other Olympic athletes, to support our association with the U.S. Olympic team.”
A rep for the company went on to say that the swimmer’s recent behavior is “not consistent with the image of Kellogg.”
To make matters worse for Phelps, USA Swimming suspended him from competitions for three months.
“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the federation said in a statement.
“Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”
What do you think? Too harsh or not harsh enough?
