Tonight it came down to the battle between the acoustic rocker vs. the glam rocker, so said Ryan Seacrest. They each had to sing three songs: one of their best from the season thus far, one chosen for them by creator Simon Fuller and one that was co-written by judge Kara DioGuardi.

Adam Lambert sang the Tears for Fears song "Mad World" and man, the song really showcased the beauty and tenderness his voice can have.

Randy Jackson said, "I'm gonna give you an A-plus on on that one, dude."

Weird tidbit: Anthony Hopkins was in the audience. Who would have ever pegged Hannibal the Cannibal as an Idol fan?

Both Paula and Kara raved about the performance, while Simon Cowell complained about Adam's trench coat.

Kris Allen chose "Ain't No Sunshine" and it was pretty damn good. "You have a way of creating an intimate bond with everyone in the audience," Kara raved.

Simon said, "When your name was announced last week, I wasn't sure whether America had got it right. But I take all that back now after that performance."

American Idol creator Simon Fuller picked Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" for Lambert and man, the boy blew away the competition.

"You can sing your face off and that was unbelievable," Randy yelled after his performance.

Paula said, "That was the best I'd ever heard you sing. Ever, ever, ever. I know with every fiber of my being that you are going to be iconic."

Poor Kris Allen got Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" for Fuller's choice. He did we best he could with it, bringing his classic acoustic twist to the overplayed number.

"It was like three friends in their bedroom strumming along to Marvin Gaye," Simon said. He and Jackson both agreed that Allen's rendition of the song was "too light" for the evening. Both Paula and Kara disagreed.

Sadly, both contestants were forced to sing a sucky Kara DioGuardi song, "No Boundaries" and it was the first time it wasn't that great for either of them. Of course, Kara loved it, but Randy didn't – and neither did anyone else. It was unfair that a cheesy tune like that was their last performance of the show. What a crappy song to end on during a long, brilliant run.

Simon told Lambert, "I'm not going to judge that song; I'm not going to judge you." Nice! Who do you think will win the American Idol crown? Be sure to get your American Idol odds in the Bodog Sportsbook now.
