Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts Celebrate National Donut Day 2009

Calling all piglets – today is National Donut Day – can we get a hoo raah? Today, big chains as well as mom and pop donut shops are giving out free doughnuts (or donuts) to the public and you can get in on the sugary action. Krispy Kreme is offering get a free donut per customer – no strings attached deal, while Dunkin Donuts is giving et a free donut with the purchase of a beverage all day.
Started as a fundraiser by the Chicago Salvation Army in 1917 to boost the morale of troops fighting in WWI, National Donut Day is held on the first Friday of June each year. Now it's just held to boost our cholesterol. Yes, the deliciousness of free donuts caught on and the tradition has held strong!
