After the big ol' Miss USA controversy where Miss California Carrie Prejean butted heads with judge Perez Hilton over the issue of gay marriage, Prejean stopped by The Today Show to clear the air with Matt Lauer.

Prejean didn't recant her comment that "marriage should be between a man and a woman" and added that she was being "bibically correct."

"I did not want to offend anybody, but I think with that question specifically, it's not about being politically correct, for me it was being biblically correct," Prejean told Lauer.

The Today Show also interviewed Hilton, who strangely just offered a video statement, rather than facing off with Prejean, which would have made for a more interesting debate.

The problem with the interview was that the line of questioning from Lauer was extremely soft, and the debate became about whether she should have changed her answer to suit the judges, compromising her beliefs. This set Prejean up for the self-congratulatory speech she unleashed, martyring herself for standing up for what she believes in. However, it was never mentioned that what she believes in fundamentally segregates millions of people – that Prejean's beliefs dictate that a group of people doesn't deserve the same rights as her based solely on their sexual orientation.

And Hilton didn't help – arguing that she should have chosen her words more carefully to suit the judges' preferances, rather than getting to the root of the issue and discussing the issue of gay marriage indepthly.
