Miss USA Winner Kristen Dalton Upstaged by Miss California's Homophobia

Miss California is a bit of a homophobe. (YouTube Video)

At the Miss USA pageant, celebrity blogger and Miss USA judge Perez Hilton asked Miss California, Carrie Prejean, about her feelings on gay marriage.

Shockingly, Prejean said that although she was pleased that in America, people are given the right to choose, she personally believes that marriage is between a man and a woman.

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised.”

Hilton seemed stunned, and later blogged the incident, calling Prejean a "dumb bitch."

"She doesn't inspire. She doesn't unite. And that is what a Miss California and a Miss USA should," he said.

It's unclear whether Prejean’s answer may have cost her the crown as she finished first runner-up behind North Carolina's Kristen Dalton. The second runner-up was Miss Arizona Alicia-Monique Blanco.

Keith Lewis, the Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA, sent Perez Hilton a statement about the incident.

"As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family."

The last time I checked, we live in a free country, where everyone is entitled to their own opinion – whether or not you agree with her is irrelevant. We should be proud that we live in a country where we can be free to speak our opinion, no matter what it is…"No offense to anyone". . .

The only person who came off as 'dumb' in this incident was Perez Hilton who just looked like a complete jerk to even ask such a question. No doubt he would have had no problem if she had come out strongly in favor of gay marriage and would have been happy with that. But what liberal radicals like him don't want is a young attractive person from a 'progressive' state like California saying they're against gay marriage. Miss California made the gays look small and insignificant (which they are) and that's what infuriated Hilton. What a lot of people might not realize is that about 4 out of 10 young Californians (18-29) group supported Prop 8, which is not bad when you consider that it only got 52.3% of the vote statewide.

Perez Hilton should apologize for making his 'bitch' remark about Miss California. That was wrong and totally uncalled for. But then that's what someone will get for participating in a silly flesh event like Miss USA.

Mr. Hilton with all do respect we have not yet slide into your solcilistic utopia you pine for so as far as the young ladies answer she has every right in the world to feel that in her heart and mind. The young lady had courage to look you in the eyes and tell you of her belifes. I for one dont care if you were offended by the answer. You can feel hurt as long as you like but very few are going to accept your views until you respect the views of other. If you want anyone to take you seriously you really should PUBLIC applogize to the young woman.

I guess you aren't allowed to be a Christian and win the Miss USA. I hope she sues since the only reason she lost was due to Hilton's anti-Christian bigotry.

The new American…..no personal opinions or beliefs are allowed any longer. Miss Calif. was very kind and she made that jerk of a judge look about 2 feet tall.

Harsh words, Miss Fairview. You're oversensitive. Just because she doesn't support gay marriage doesn't mean she's "a bit of a homophobe." Do you even know what the word 'homophobia' means?

Religious beliefs have no place but Hollywood/liberal agenda does?! Double standards everywhere I see. And Perez is joking about using the C word. So much for being tolerant, Perez, only when it suits you do you act "tolerant". Grow up.

And this Keith Lewis needs to stop trying to impose on Perjean's beliefs…. what a sellout he is.

I find it interesting that, because Ms Prejean believes that marriage is between a man and a woman, that she gets labeled a "homophobe", gets called a "dumb bitch", and… Well… I'll get to Keith Lewis' statement in a moment. This is the time-honored process that the liberal culture employs when someone disagrees with them. They get labeled with a negative connotation to attack their credibility, then they get assaulted verbally (if they're lucky it stops there) by the more radical and outspoken of the opposing viewpoint for being and exclusivist… I think it's hilarious that they never really seem to understand that they are excluding the exclusivist, which makes them… Exclusivists… Not to mention, ill-mannered, uncouth, and foolish. Ms Prejean should be applauded (and she was, quite a bit louder than Vermont was, BTW) for expressing her opinion in such a forthright, honest, unafraid, and respectful way.

As for Mr. Lewis' statement to Hilton, I have a few things I'd like to point out. Ms Prejean did not make any statement at all about religion. She expressed a moral opinion that happens to mirror the Judeo-Christian worldview. I wonder if he'd feel the same about a worldview that endorses arranged marriages where the people entering into the union have no choice in the matter. I also never knew that the "Miss CA family" was a political organization… If so, I'd like to know why he's whining about discrimination while discriminating against Ms Prejean.

As for Ms Prejean, I'd like to say stick to your guns, girl. Don't let some very small people push you around. There are LOTS of people who will stand with you.

No one's right to free speech was violated here. I hardley think that not being crowned fairest in the land is that devestating.

Here is my "opinion", if it matters…

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised.”

#1. You can't choose same-sex marriage. The question was should States follow suit in leagalizing it and why.

#2. The phrase opposite marriage is just absurd.

#3. The whole thing just sounds like a bad open response on a grade school kid's standardized test, "I think that I believe…"

#4 This is a bikini clad woman competeing for vanity. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that she fornicates. Her as a representative of religious morals in regards to sexuality is laughable.

The fact that liberals and conservatives are actually arguing over this catty nonsense is even more embarrassing than anything that can come out of the mouths of either Perez Hilton or Carrie Prejean.
