Former USF player Nick Schuyler, and NFL players Marquis Cooper of the Oakland Raiders, Corey Smith, who played for the Detroit Lions last season and William Beakley went missing after they left Clearwater, Florida on a fishing trip Saturday morning and did not return.
Schuyler was found clinging to the capsized 21-foot boat. It was anchored when it flipped Saturday evening in rough seas. The other men apparently got separated from the boat.
According to coast Guard officials the Coast Guard did not receive any distress signals from the boat. "We had a 47-foot vessel searching earlier today, and we had to pull it in because it was too rough," stated Coast Guard petty officer Sondra-Kay Kneen on Sunday.
Schuyler, who was wearing a life vest, had been clinging to the boat since then and confirmed that the others who are still missing, were also wearing life vests. The Coast Guard is continuing the search for the other missing men, using the location where they found Schuyler to redirect their search efforts.
