President Barack Obama appeared on David Letterman's The Late Show to make one last pitch for health care reform. Before Obama came out, Letterman read his ten reasons why the president had agreed to do it. Among Letterman's Top Ten List: Obama said yes without thinking about it, "Like Bush did with Iraq."
The two joked initially, with Letterman asking Obama about Jimmy Carter’s assertion that racism is behind recent political attacks, Obama responded, “It’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election.”
Obama then turned the conversation to health care and the public outcry over it.
"This is not untypical," he said. "One of the things you sign up for in politics is folks yell at you."
"When it gets done – like when social security got done and when medicare got done, people are going to realize this was the right way to go.
"Your job is more difficult that my job," Letterman said. "That's what I've learned here tonight."
