Well, here we go again folks. Paula Abdul is threatening to quit American Idol yet again, like she does every season. Apparently, producers have failed to give Abdul a new contract and Abdul wants more money that the $2.5 million annual salary, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the killer contract they just inked with Ryan Seacrest – $45 million for the next three years.
Abdul's manager, David Sonenberg, told the LA Times, "Very sadly, it does not appear that she's going to be back on 'Idol." He said. "I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful," he said of the contract holdup. "I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven't stepped up and said what they want to do."
Soneneberg also alluded to Abdul looking to create a competing show to Idol.
"She's not a happy camper as a result of what's going on. She's hurt. She's angry," Sonenberg said. "I think at this point we're going to be considering everything, including some kind of a competition show. She has tremendous ideas for a whole variety of shows."
Okay, so a little editorializing here, but here goes: Yeah, it's unfair that Ryan Secreast and Simon Cowell (who gets a whopper of a paycheck) earn more than Abdul, but hey, they showed up to work sober. Although last season Abdul did appear to be off whatever it was she was on in previous seasons, Abdul had slurred her way through every other season and appeared pretty wasted on live, national television. She should be grateful they kept her on as long as they did. Abdul only cleaned up her act once they hired some competition, Kara DioGuardi.
