The police report is in on retired NFL QB Steve McNair and as it turns out — the girlfriend did it.

Some were guessing that maybe McNair's wife had hired a hitman to bump off the two lovers and others believed it may have been drug related. But according to Police Chief Ronal Serpas, McNair was killed in his sleep by his 20-year-old girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, whose finances were so shot she felt she wanted to die. (Kazemi pulled the gun on herself after shooting McNair four times while he napped on the sofa.)

Serpas' report included details obtained through interviews with Kazemi's friends, which stated that she was making payments on two cars, her rent was doubling and on top of all that she suspected McNair was seeing another woman.

"We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly," Serpas said, though she didn't mention anything to anyone about planning to kill McNair.

Before shooting herself, Serpas said Kazemi sat next to his body and "tried to stage it so she would fall in his lap." Instead, her body slid to the floor and ended up at McNair's feet with the gun still underneath her.

McNair was drafted third overall by the Tennessee Titans (then the Houston Oliers) in 1995. He went on to lead the Titans to a Super Bowl appearance in 1999 and won the co-MVP award in 2003. He spent his last two years with the Baltimore Ravens before retiring in 2008.
