Susan Boyle Sings 'My Heart Will Go On' to Larry King

Here we go again. More Susan Boyle, people. (YouTube Video)

All right, people. Now, we at Bodog Beat are agreeing with you all that Susan Boyle has a good voice. We especially liked her recorded rendition of Cry me a River that leaked online yesterday. However, we think the world might be going a little Susan Boyle bananas. Yes, she has a good voice, but so do a lot of people. And it's not mind-blowing. Her voice doesn't exactly bring you to your knees in reverie. The fact is, if she wasn't so funny looking, she would just be another decent singer getting lost on the sea of decent singers. But because she's so unpleasant to look at, so obscure, so cloaked with that "destined to fail" look, people are blinded by the level of her talent and are ready to hail her as the next superstar. Because – for once, they want to see an ugly person rise to the top.

During her media blitz, Boyle appeared on Larry King and sang Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." She sang it well, but it didn't blow socks off or anyting. However, Piers Morgan from Britain's Got Talent was on-hand to add his two cents and told Boyle she had the "voice of an angel."

What do you think? Was Boyle all that and a bag of chips? We're thinking no, but everyone else seems to think she's amazing. We have found no one who agrees with us, except for this guy. Oh, and there's also "Sora" who posted a query on Yahoo which reads, "Just because she's ugly (that's right – she's ugly; not plain or however you choose to euphemise it) doesn't immediately put her head and shoulders above someone as equally talented? It's about talent, not an Ugly Contest."

The big question is whether Susan should change, get a makeover, etc. No, she shouldn't change a thing– except society's obsession with beauty. It's her talent that's the story, unfortunately the unspoken news is that such incredible talent comes in such a plain package. Sad, but true.
Let's celebrate the woman and her amazing talent, not our obsession with beauty and celebrity.

Yes i agree that many others have talents like her: good voice, and even better: good looking.

It's not just because she's not decent looking and sings well that moves so many people. I think it's because of her personality and what she does to her songs. She brought out more than just a good voice in a good song.

I believe she is representing the hopes of the people in this era of misfortunes. She brings her soul to people in a very motherly way. I wouldn't agree blindly that she will performs just as well on any other songs that she sings. But I truly believe that if she sings with the same spirit that she brought forth in her "I Dreamed a Dream," she will ubdoubtly be successful and strive as a symbol for many.

She's a brave, sweet woman with a lovely gift. To me, "ugly" equates only to people who judge others by their appearance.

Do you know how HARD it is to sing a cappela, on a moments'notice…put a full orchestra behind that and/or let her try it 47 times in a recording studio like Madonna and all the rest do! What the hell were you expecting???? God bless her!

Comment *Unbelievable another cynical article trying to put popularity and looks into “talent”. Some question her talent under a veil of media blogs; that is simply distasteful. Do they not have ears? She is a brilliant singer, untrained and raw talent. For those that think singing is a common gift given by god and given to the masses, think again. Many people think they have the gift of song but rarely pursue the dream due to the fact of the harshness public criticism. If Ms. Boyle gift is so common, then I question why don’t others that have “talent” appear in front of hundreds and give their dream a shot. To be truthful, it is not all about “talent and looks” is about being courageous in a world that can be condescending and cruel. I am so glad that the cruelness she faces and has faced has not stopped her desire to pursue her dream and those that want to negate her abilities and going after her dreams, learn acceptance and pursue your own dreams so maybe you can have empathy for others that go on a limb and actually are surprising and a breathe of fresh air when they succeed

The reason MILLIONS of people all over the world are in awe of Susan Boyle, is because she is truly talented – and – a decent human being. As someone who has been in "showbiz" for several decades, I know it is extremely rare to see these two attributes go hand-in-hand. Arrogant, vain, self-absorbed entertainers, are the norm. For those who are critical of her, because she doesn't look like a Barbie doll, I'm guessing it is simply because they are small, petty, little, people who do not have the courage to make – their dreams – come true. Susan is a Winner. All those who have maligned her in any way, are losers and sadly, they will most likley be, for the rest of their lives.
