In what Meredith Viera claimed as was an event "bigger than Christmas," the long-awaited reunion of The New Kids on the Block was unveiled on The Today Show. Although their performance on the show is slated for May, the guys interviewed with Viera in front of wild, screaming fans.
The multi-platinum boy band constantly topped the charts with a plethora of hit singles. However, once they surpassed puberty, their tween fans lost interest and so they changed their name to NKOTB, a name which earned the band a severe backlash and thus they fell into obscurity — finally calling it quits in 1994.
Since then, Jon Knight has gotten into real estate, Donnie Wahlberg (brother to actor Mark Wahlberg) has had some luck in acting with roles in The Sixth Sense and Band of Brothers; little Joe McIntyre found a brief moment of fame on Dancing with the Stars, while Jordan Knight and Danny Wood have launched solo careers.
If their appearance on The Today Show is any indication of their fan-base, it looks like the New Kids jumping on the reunion bandwagon might be a successful one.
