Perhaps it was the live performances of multiple Enchanted songs that made everyone reach for their remotes — or Tilda Swinton's foul get-up, but whatever the reason, the Oscars bombed.

Threatened by strikes and rain — the Oscars was the Little Engine that Could of events. However, sadly, through the perseverance, ratings for the 2008 Oscars were down 21.9 percent from last year, according to numbers from Nielsen Media Research. Critics have argued that Sunday night's production was seemingly slapped together, with the event full of clips rather than live sketches. Jon Stewart's jokes? Meh.

More accurate fast national ratings have been delayed by Nielsen and should be available later this afternoon.
