After the abrupt passing of Michael Jackson, director Kenny Ortega decided to turn the This Is It rehearsals into a documentary film.

Now, 120 hours of rehearsal footage has been edited down to just two compelling hours that showcases Jackson rehearsing new and old material. Starting today,This is It is only supposed to run for two weeks, but the massive box office to come might extend the run.

As of 10:45 a.m. ET, rottentomatoes has given This is It a respectable score of 65%, with 15 positive reviews and eight negative.

Andrew Barker of Variety says, "There’s an incredible amount to enjoy here, and the star’s fans will be in rapture. Though Jackson looks painfully thin at times, his vocal prowess and dancing ability seem to have scarcely ebbed at all in the decade he spent offstage."

Elysa Gardner of USA Today raves, "If This Is It doesn't miraculously restore the middle-aged Jackson to his past glory, it at least offers glimpses of his bygone greatness, and poignant suggestions of what might have been."

Negative reviews however, claim the Jackson documentary is as a missed opportunity with little new insight.
It doesn't matter what the reviews say though, as millions of Jackson fans are expected to begin storming the box office today.
