How do you jumpstart a sinking political campaign? Some would say by getting out there and shaking hands, others advocate fundraising day and night. The most desperate would go for smearing of the opposition.

Hillary Clinton? She’s going on Comedy Central.

That decision is sure to elicit snickers among the political wonks who now see the former first lady’s run for the presidency as a joke. According to a news release by the cable channel on Saturday, Clinton will appear on Monday’s edition of “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.

You know the politically savvy Stewart will enjoy the moment and make his conversation with the New York senator as enlightening as anything we'd see on CNN. Clinton needs to hold her own with one of TV's leading satirical wits. She is in dire need of a turnaround in fortunes. With primaries in Texas, Vermont and Ohio on Tuesday, Clinton is on the verge of having to win in order to stay in the race for the Democratic nomination.

Just a few months ago, Clinton was a betting favorite to win the presidential election. But Barack Obama has steamrolled over her in the last six weeks and Tuesday could be his knockout blow if he wins either Texas or Ohio, big states Clinton has pegged her campaign on.

Obama has odds of 2/13 to win the nomination while Clinton has dropped to 5/1. Obama, the 46-year-old Illinois senator, is also the favorite to win the election on Nov. 4, 2008. His odds to be the U.S. president are 8/15. Likely Republican nominee John McCain is at 3/2 while Clinton is the 8/1 long shot.
