Actor Val Kilmer attended the Huffington Post Pre-Inaugural Ball at the Newseum in late January. Fresh from the inspiration of Barack Obama’s inauguration, actor Val Kilmer has been reading the Terminator handbook – and his hoping to run for the office of governor of New Mexico.
"I’m just looking for ways to be contributive," Kilmer said in an interview at a local restaurant. "And if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I’ll run."
New Mexico is due for a new governor in 2010, when Democrat Bill Richardson’s second term ends. This could spell trouble for Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who has long had her eye on the gig. A movie star opponent might be tough for her.
Although Kilmer grew up in Los Angeles, he has lived in New Mexico for over twenty years.
