2003 Derby Winner Santos settles with the Miami Herald

Hall of fame jockey Jose Santos from Chile, retired last year after winning more then 4,000 races. Highlights of his career would be his wins at the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness with Funny Cide.

Lately his been more concerned with legal issues then horse racing, Santos has recently settled his lawsuit against the Miami Herald over an article stating that he may have had an illegal object in his hand during the 2003 Kentucky Derby aboard Funny Cide.

He has been cleared of all allegations by the racing officials, who confirmed he only had a whip in his hand at the time of the alleged infraction.

Santos' attorney Bruce Rogow said his client was "pleased" with terms of the settlement, which are confidential. Santos will "focus his energies on horses" now that the lawsuit is over.
