It was the hottest June 7 in Elmont, NY history when Da'Tara crossed the finish line of the 140th Belmont Stakes — a huge upset to Big Brown. The grandstands at Belmont Park were full of spectators as the Win/Place/Show finishers crossed the line, completing the final leg of the Triple Crown. The field today was narrowed to 9 horses after Casino Drive scratched because of a bruised hoof. The top three finishers for the 2008 Belmont Stakes are:

Da'Tara came in first place to make Triple Crown history; Denis of Cork took second place and Anak Nakal came in third. Big Brown became the first Triple Crown hopeful to finish last.

Since Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978, 10 horses have tried to capture the title and all 10 had failed… Big Brown joins the ranks of these horses.
