Calder Racecourse presents its "Summit of Speed" card on Saturday, showcasing some of the fastest Thoroughbreds on the continent. Six stakes races, four of them with graded status, will go at six furlongs with purses of over $1.3 million offered to the quickest of the quick.

The Gr. 1 Princess Rooney Stakes for fillies and mares will go as the main event with a purse of $400,000 and draws the highly-rated Dream Rush. The multiple Gr. 1 winner will be the likely favorite over Looky Yonder, who upset her in the recent Gr. 2 Vagrancy Handicap, Gr. 2 winner Mystical Plan and last year’s Breeders Cup filly & Mare Sprint runner-up Miraculous Miss.

The card’s main attraction will be sprint star Benny the Bull, who highlights the Gr. 2 $400,000 Smile Sprint. The early favorite for this year’s edition of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint is entering off consecutive victories in the Sunshine Millions Sprint, Gr. 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen and Belmont’s Gr. 2 True North Handicap. Opposition for the short-course specialist should come from True North runner-up Man of Danger and Gr. 3 Aristides Stakes winner Indian Chant.

Sophomore speedsters will be featured in the Gr. 2 $250,000 Carry Back Stakes, where California’s Salute the Sarge, a Gr. 2 winner on the West Coast will take on local stars Golden Spikes and Gentlemen James.

Two highly-regarded fillies cross the continent to meet in the Gr. 3 $250,000 Azalea Stakes and each is seeking their first graded stakes victory. Indyanne, undefeated after three overwhelming wins in Northern California is trained by Greg Gilchrist and ridden by Russell Baze. This team has had success in the Summit of Speed before, accounting for the 2005 Smile Stakes with Lost in the Fog and the 2006 Azalea with Victorina. Canada’s 2007 champion juvenile filly Dancing Allstar has won eight of 10 starts north of the border and ships all the way from Vancouver, British Columbia.

A pair of overnight stakes for 2-year-olds round out the Summit of Speed, the $55,000 J.J.’s Dream Stakes for 2-year-old fillies and the Frank Gomez Stakes for juveniles, each at six furlongs.
