The Belmont Stakes is less than a week away and Kentucky Derby/Preakness winner Big Brown is still nursing a crack in his left front hook.

"This is just a slight, slight crack," hoof specialist Ian McKinlay said Monday (yes, horses have a hoof specialist). "We're being extra cautious because he's heading toward the Triple Crown."

Specialists in Big Brown's camp plan on attaching an acrylic and fiberglass patch to his hoof on Friday, allowing him to run at full speed when he races for the triple crown on Saturday, June 7.

"As the clock ticks, it's gotten better and better," McKinlay said.

Despite the injury, Big Brown is still a 1/3 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes in the Bodog Racebook.
