All summer long on race tracks here and abroad, Breeders’ Cup Challenge races will be run and one horse will get the “win and you’re in” express spot in a Breeders’ Cup race. On July 4 the $750,000 United Nations Stakes was offering a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf to the winner.

Presious Passion led the entire race and destroyed the course record in his second straight United Nations Stakes win. He covered 1 3/8 miles over firm turf in 2:10.97, beating the previous record by almost two full seconds. He just missed beating the world record for the distance of 2:10.20 set by With Approval at Belmont Park in 1990.

Sent off as the second choice, Presious Passion paid $7.40, $3.80, and $3 across the board and topped the $89.80 exacta. He also beat the 9-5 favorite Court Vision, who was supposed to handle the field with ease.
