Breeders' Cup organizers were so determined to see Preakness Stakes winner Rachel Alexandra race at Santa Anita on Nov. 7th against undefeated Zenyatta that they offered to sweeten the winner's share of the of the Breeders' Cup Classic by a cool $1 million.

But co-owner Jess Jackson didn't bite. "Rachel already has completed a brilliant long campaign," Jackson said late Friday.

Clearly, the issue here is not monetary; Jackson does not want to race Rachel Alexandra on Santa Anita's synthetic surface. Plain and simple.

If you missed seeing Rachel Alexandra's Vogue magazine shoot (yes, that Vogue), check out her video diary courtesy of Stonestreet Farms.

Having won the 2009 Kentucky Oaks by over 20 lengths, then the 2009 Preakness Stakes, followed by the Mother Goose Stakes, the Haskell Invitational, and most recently the Woodward Stakes (the only female to ever win!), Rachel Alexandra is a good bet to win the Horse of the Year award.

Even without Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Breeders' Cup promises to be huge.
