After a career that saw the 5 year old participate in 17 races, Heatseeker has encountered a physical setback worthy of retirement. A ligament problem in his left foreleg will require a minimum of 6 months recovery time, causing him to miss the Oct. 26 $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.

In what can be recognized as a very successful career, Heatseeker earned $1,177,776 throughout his 17 appearances, winning 7 of those races.

“We are extremely disappointed, as we had our sights set on the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, where we figured to be one of the favorites based on Heatseeker’s dominance of his division this year,” owner William de Burgh said in announcing the injury.

Heatseeker’s most recent accomplishment was winning both the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap, and the Grade 2 Californian. No stud decision has yet to be made for him.
