Built in the 1920s, Hialeah Park near Miami, Florida held its last live race back in 2001 as a result of a government imposed horse racing ban. But all that has changed as of yesterday when Florida's governor signed a new bill, allowing the racetrack to resume live racing as early as December.

"Looks like we're going to be here for a while," Hialeah Park vice president and co-owner John Brunetti Jr. told The Associated Press.

Hialeah Park is in need of some massive repairs as several hurricanes and years of neglect have left the racetrack in pretty bad shape. Estimates of anywhere from $60 to $100 million are coming in and the final cost could play a huge role in determining exactly when the grand reopening will take place.
