Surf Cat came away with a win by a half-length in his first race since 2006 when he beat all challengers in the $150,000 San Carlos Handicap (Gr. II) on Saturday.

Bruce Headley
, the trainer of Surf Cat, claimed his fifth Grade II victory. Surf Cat took charge in the head-to-head battle against Greg's Gold and the highly favored Johnny Eves.

Surf Cat finised the race in a time of 1:21:62 on Santa Anita's synthetic track. With Alex Solis aboard, Surf Cat came from the back of the seven-horse pack to nip Greg’s Gold.

Surf Cat paid $7 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.80 to show.

Bet on the horses!
