According to reports, two veterinarians from the state of Ohio have been suspended indefinitely on October 2, 2008 by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) pending results of an ongoing investigation. The two veterinarians, Dr. Rick Mathers and Dr. Rick Rothfuss attended to horses that were competing at the Red Mile Harness track in Lexington.
On October 1, KHRC investigators had searched two vehicles owned by both veterinarians in which they had seized records and unidentified substances. Following the search, Richard Williams, the KHRC’s presiding judge for Standartbred racing, enforced the suspension after reviewing the physical evidence.
A hearing for both veterinarians, who are partners in a practice in Columbus, is currently pending.
