With the big day at Churchill Downs rapidly approaching, here are some fun quick facts about the Kentucky Derby:

- The first woman to ride in the Derby was Diane Crump in 1970.
- There have been more bay colt winners then any other color horse.
- The post position with the most wins is #2 with 29 winners.
- No horse has ever won from post 15.
- Only 21 horses have ever led the race from wire to wire to win.

It has been a rocky Road to the Roses this year, with many of the big contenders knocked off the trail and the $500,000 Lanes End Stakes winner With a City euthanized for a mysterious illness. Top jockey John Velazquez is off the Derby trail as well as he was injured while winning the $150,000 Forerunner Stakes last week. Garret Gomez is said to be the replacement as top stable rider for Todd Pletcher after Velazquez's injury. With the way Gomez has been performing this year you can bet Bluegrass Cat, Sunriver and Keyed Entry will all be getting attention as they are all trained by Todd Pletcher.

Don't forget about the Fillies at the Kentucky Oaks!
