The 58th running of the $750,000 Florida Derby has heavily favored Dunkirk as the 9-5 top pick. The undefeated colt will be making his third start, and first graded stakes appearance. He will need to finish in first or second place to ensure himself a birth in the Kentucky Derby, despite being one of most popular futures bets for the first jewel in the Triple Crown.

His toughest competition will come from Quality Road (2-1) and Theregoesjojo (5-1). Quality Road had an impressive 4 1/4-length victory in the Feb. 28 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (gr. II). In the same race, Theregoesjojo came from off the pace for runner-up despite being taken four-wide in the final turn by Kent Desormeaux. In a previous meeting in January Theregoesjojo beat Quality Road by 2 ¾ lengths. Danger to Society will be the other horse to watch, coming in at 6-1 against the tough field.
