Santa Anita Derby
This Saturday the Santa Anita Derby will be a showdown of the two best three-year-old colts on the West Coast when The Pamplemousse and Pioneerof the Nile meet for the first time. (Wikimedia Images)

The Pamplemousse was the runaway winner of the nine-furlong Sham Stakes (gr. III) on Feb. 28, and will be the slight favorite on Saturday with odds of 9/5. He'll bring a 3-0-1 record in five starts, but will have to break from the number 10 post.

Pioneerof the Nile has slightly higher odds of 2/1. The San Felipe Stakes winner will be looking to improve his 4-0-1 in seven starts record, but will have to deal with a fast pace that will likely be set by sprinter Z Day (15/1). Other horses to watch are Chocolate Candy (6/1), who will be breaking from the rail, and Mr. Hot Stuff (8/1), who is a full brother of Colonel John.
