Rafael Bejarano a Santa Anita jockey was thrown to the ground very hard in the stretch of the final race on March 13 when his horse, Parisian Art, had a heart attack and died on the field. Bejarano was put into an ambulance on a stretcher and taken to local Arcadia Methodist Hospital.
Bejarano atop Parisian Art were well back of the field into the stretch, when the 3-year-old collapsed just past the eighth pole, falling to the ground and smashing Bejarano head first onto the track. The rider was thrown clear from the horse and remained motionless while the ambulance came to the scene.
Bejarano had two earlier wins on the same card. It was the 12th winning ride for Bejarano in 25 mounts since March 8. Bejarano has a total of 60 wins.
Bejarano is scheduled to ride Georgie Boy in the March 15 San Felipe Stakes (gr. II).
