The 2009 De La Rose is the eighth race on the August 5 Saratoga card and will have 16 entrants. The one-mile race for four-year-old females and up will have an $80K purse on the Saratoga turf track. It will be the sixth year running the race, and this year the favorite to beat is Cocoa Beach (6-5). She shares top spot with Skylighter, who will carry two pounds less.

A good horse that’s making her debut in North America is Teamgeist (15-1). She’s coming off a disappointing return in the Floral Park on June 21, but she will hope to bounce back to her earlier form that won her the Grade I Beldame on dirt and the Grade I Matriarch on turf, and had her finish second in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. She’s also a multiple graded stakes winner back home in Argentina and could easily surprise the field.
