At Saturday's Arlington Million, Spirit One and jockey Iortiz Mendizabal took an early lead and never looked back as they ran to the $1M prize.

Trained by Phillipe Demercastel, Spirit One flourished in the absence of projected pacesetter Sudan en route to the victory.

The four-year-old bay ran the 1 1/4 mile Arlington Park track in just 2:02.

Trailing Spirit One in second place was Mount Nelson while Archipenko sat third.

In the Beverly D prior to the headlining event, Kent Desormeaux captained Christopher Clemente's Mauralakana to a first place, 1:55 finish and $750,000.
